What to do about apology?

Well, something happened with my dad last week and I have to say sorry. My mom says it can't just be a simple "Sorry I (blank blank) dad, I love you." She says I have to make it meaningful, even though she knows me and him both hate emotional moments :/ The fudge am I suppose to do?
